Sometimes we like to trade something we have lots of with someone who has something we don't have, like trading cards or a special snack in our lunch. Can you think of some things that are traded with a brother, sister or friend this week?

People trade food between countries too! In Canada we grow lots of grains, like wheat, that can be made into flour for bread. Some other countries don't have much wheat, but they grow rice and can trade their rice with us. Sometimes the trade is "food for food". Sometimes the trade is "food for money", like when we sell our produce.

Play the Trading Game to see what you started with and what you end up having at the end of the game. See if you think that trading is always fair. Will you have enough money to buy what you want?

When you are finished, talk about the game with your teacher and classmates.
