This title is one of about 19 in their series "Critical
Challenges across the Curriculum".
TC2 aims to promote critical thinking from primary to post-secondary
education, and each unit in this book does so. Master handouts
for each activity are provided. Students explore the factors
affecting their quality of life, and also in several other
countries. They consider entitlement to basic human rights
and compile a Charter of Young People's Rights. After comparing
this charter with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child,
they decide on amendments to the class charter. The students
then compare the rights they enjoy with those of a young person
in another country. They learn about criteria for effective
international development, and use these to judge some NGO
projects. They study the complexities in planning an effective
development aid project, and then design one which would support
the rights of the young person in another country. Gr 5-12.
